From the President and Members of Lodge 1. Shana Tova - Happy New Year to you all! I would like to discuss a couple of the themes of Rosh Hashanah. Theme 1 is Hope for the Future - the hope for a prosperous, healthy, and joyous year filled with blessings and good fortune. After another difficult year for Israel and the Jewish people may 5786 bring the release of the remaining hostages and lasting peace in the Land of Israel. Theme 2 is to Live with purpose - to find meaning in life and dedicate your efforts to living in G-d’s presence and enhancing the life of others. I think we would all agree that the Hebrew Order of David helps us to fulfil this theme in the valuable time we devote in our many fundraising and charitable endeavours.
- Bro Marc Jackson, President, Lodge 1
Rosh Hashana Message from the President of London Lodge 4
As we approach Rosh Hashana, a time of reflection and renewal, I look back with immense pride on what London Lodge 4 has achieved over the past 12 months.
This has been a year of growth, connection, and purpose. We began with the installation of our new leadership team, bringing fresh energy and vision to our Lodge. Soon after, we had the privilege of supporting the Zichron Menachem summer camp here in London, that provided a much-needed week of fun respite for kids dealing with Cancer.
In November, we hosted our first ever Charity Casino Evening, a wonderful blend of camaraderie and fundraising, and we now eagerly look forward to making this an annual tradition, with our second casino evening set for this November. We also inaugurated what will be the first of many annual talks, welcoming the Community Security Trust (CST) to share invaluable insights into the fight against antisemitism in the UK, and to remind us of the 2,000+ volunteers who dedicate themselves to protecting our community.
On a lighter but no less important note, we launched our Whisky Club, a chance to strengthen bonds of brotherhood over shared tradition, heritage, and friendship.
Alongside this, we have proudly welcomed many new Brethren into our Lodge, growing our numbers and reaffirming the values that bind us together.
And yet, even as we celebrate these achievements, we carry in our hearts the heavy knowledge that 48 hostages remain in captivity. Their plight is never far from our thoughts and prayers, and we stand with their families as a Lodge, as a community, and as brothers.
As we enter 5786, may the year ahead bring strength to our Order, unity to our community, and peace to our people. May we continue to build, support, and uplift one another, guided always by the principles of brotherhood, charity, and service.
On behalf of London Lodge 4, I wish you and your families a Shanah TovaU’Metukah, a good and sweet new year.
Fraternally,
Bro Julian Coleman
President, London Lodge 4

Zichron Menachem Stubbers Day
A SUMMER LIKE NO OTHER – ZICHRON MENACHEM’S LIFE CHANGING CAMP IN LONDON
This summer, Zichron Menachem brought the magic of friendship, independence and pure joy to London, hosting an unforgettable camp experience for 87 young cancer patients from Israel and 73 devoted staff and medical volunteers. The group of 160 including three doctors, four nurses and a psychologist came together to create something truly extraordinary.
For the children and young adults, who are in the midst of treatment or recovery, this wasn’t just a summer break. It was the first time stepping away from hospital routines, wigs and even their parents. It was a transformative, empowering and a life-changing time away. For a 6-year-old boy, it was the first time he had ever been apart from his parents and by the end of the week, he had formed new friendships, built confidence and discovered joy in independence.
After a fun thrilled week , the Sunday activity at Stubbers was sponsored by HOD culminating with a BBQ and entertainment by Shmeichel. This day as it always has been the highlight of camp. Having three groups through the day assisting the kids with their safety wear and keeping them in line for the fun filled activities was a challenge full of joy. We saw the smiles, the confidence coming through the participants in all stages and in different environments. Watching Rotem holding onto those high wires with a peering smile. The opportunity for gaining confidence and the will to persevere to get to the end unassisted.
The barbecue was manned by our devoted HOD brethren serving up sausages, burgers and wings, alongside an extensive array of salads. For those with a sweet tooth there was softserve, smoothies and popcorn.
At the end of the evening, we were privileged to have Shmeichel join us with their volunteers accompanied by a keyboard player. In addition, we had a surprise visit by superstar Yishshai Lapidot who flew in from Israel, a singer who has accompanied ZM for many years. Everybody danced and enjoyed a evening of true Chavershaft.
Zichron Menachem was a catalyst for bringing so many brethren together in one day sharing, caring and ultimately doing what we at HOD have set out to do.
WB Eli Seliger commented “You see the campers blossom. “These children are taken out of ‘sick mode.’ They laugh, they sing, they play. For a short time, the illness fades into the background.”
“The atmosphere throughout camp was electric. The love was palpable . You could see it on everyone’s faces – they were truly enjoying the day regaining energy and recharging for the journey ahead. We even managed to bring smiles to the sickest of the sick. The day was worth every pound and every minute of our volunteering. It was a privilege to be part of something so great.”
Thank you to every Brother and their partner who made this dream a reality. Because of you, these brave children experienced a day of freedom, hope and unforgettable joy.
Golf Day
Report on the recent very successful Golf Day on the 10th of July :
This year marked a truly momentous occasion as we celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the HOD Asher Teper Memorial Golf Day at Hartsbourne Golf Club – and what a spectacular day it was!
With 88 enthusiastic golfers competing for fantastic prizes, and outstanding food and hospitality throughout the day, it was nothing short of exceptional.
We were blessed with glorious weather, vibrant energy, and a great atmosphere
This year's event mainly supported Magen David Adom UK, and thanks to our hard work , we raised a phenomenal £40,000!
These vital funds will go towards purchasing a portable bomb shelter in Israel, helping MDAUK continue its life-saving work across the country for people of all backgrounds.
Widely recognised as the “best charity day of the year”, the feedback we've received has been nothing less than extraordinary.
We have now raised in excess of £500,000 for charity from our golf days – a legacy we can all be incredibly proud of.
WB Anton Teper spoke beautifully at our dinner , highlighting the remarkable work HOD continues to do and offering a moving tribute to his late father. His mother, Sandra Teper, graciously presented the prizes, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the celebrations.
We’re already looking ahead to next year – 25th June 2026 – and we’re thrilled to announce that the event is already virtually sold out!
Fraternally
WB Mike Tannenbaum ( President UK Governing Lodge)
GIFT Packathon
Over 30 members of HOD, partners and children helped to pack bags for the less fortunate members of our community at GIFT in Hendon on 14th September.
Quiz Evening
A successful and fun “quiz with a difference” charity fundraising event was held at Hartsbourne Country Club on 15th June. Attended by over 70 people who enjoyed a delicious Shwarma and falafel supper, the evening raised over £2,000 split between 3 charities, Project Chrome (a charity recycling old computers), Unit 669 (for alumni of the Israeli helicopter combat search and extraction unit) and HOD.
Gravestone Project
|
The Hebrew Order of David International Gravestone Project were honoured to unveil another 40 Gravestones for the forgotten Jewish children who did not get honoured on their passing. The ceremony was conducted by Rabbi Avi Lazarus at the Edmonton Cemetery on Sunday the 31st August. To date the HOD have unveiled 60 children's grave stones with another 40 planned this year.
Each grave stone costs £90, this is the ultimate chesed gift for those who were forgotten and cannot thank you.
Please consider giving a donation to commemorate someone dear to you that has passed away or as a Rosh Hashana donation.
May you be blessed to have a wonderful, sweet and healthy New Year.

Mrs. Goldman walked into Yossi’s pharmacy asking for a particular nasal spray. "You know, that brand is very addictive," Yossi warned her. "If it's used for a prolonged period of time, your congestion can come back worse than before, prompting even further use."
"That's ridiculous," scoffed Mrs. Goldman. "I've been using it every day for years."
David Applebaum called his mother and announced excitedly that he had just met a young lady of excellent character named Rachel, who interested him very much. What should he do?
Mrs. Applebaum had an idea: "Why don't you send her flowers, and on the card invite her to your apartment for a home-cooked meal? Show her that I raised a boy who knows his way around the kitchen!"
David thought this was a great idea, and a week later, Rachel came to dinner. Mrs. Applebaum called the next day to see how things had gone.
"I was totally humiliated," David moaned. "Rachel insisted on washing the dishes."
"What's wrong with that?" asked his mother.
"We hadn't started eating yet."
Wishing you a year of peace, blessings and good health.
